Celebration Day 6: Sea Day

Sea days are truly my favorite days and I take full advantage of all of them by waking up early. Most people take vacation to sleep in but I learned early on, I would rather wake up early and get a good seat and take a midday nap later on. So on day 6, we did just that!

We woke up early thinking we could take advantage of the pool outside of Pig and Anchor. That’s where the comfy chairs with the pillows we found earlier in the trip were located. When we got there the chairs were full, the lounge beds were taken and there was no space for more people. Unfortunately, there were a lot of saved chairs with no humans but we decided to head to the Serenity Deck instead for a quiet morning of sun!

Once we settled in at Serenity it was time to grab breakfast! The key to getting good seats is to divide and conquer. I stayed in my chair with my book while Cory ventured down and across the ship to Shaq’s (don’t act too surprised). (Editor’s note: This isn’t recommended. You have to traverse two sets of stairs as you venture from the front to the back of the ship with no hands to support your food while the wind blows. We lost some good buns on this trip) Once breakfast was done, it was time to relax! We enjoyed some mid morning drinks, lots more time with our Kindles and time to soak in the endless ocean horizon. It is easy to lose track of time reading a psychological thriller and I did just that.

Before I knew it, it was time for lunch! Again, we love cruises because we can both get whatever we want that day without having to do too much work. We decided on burgers and tacos, for lunch we kept it fairly basic each day.

We had 2:00 reservations for the Bolt roller coaster at sea so we quickly ran to our room to get our sneakers and appropriate clothing before we headed to the ropes course first! We really wanted to zipline over the ocean (talk about adrenaline) before hopping on the Bolt but the line was really slow moving and we did not want to risk losing our reservation. Instead. we headed over to the Bolt and jumped right on!

This was my first time driving on the Bolt, the last two times Cory drove and I was ready to test out the speed! We were in the second car and I don't think I ever let off the throttle or the boost until our car stopped in the middle of a turn and we were stranded. We were stuck sideways over the mini golf course for about 10 seconds but it felt like forever! Our car started up after we got a few giggles in and took in the stares from all the families playing mini golf. When we got back we were informed we would have another “free” ride since we got stuck but we had to exit the car to make sure everything was okay with the ride first.

After a quick 2 minutes, we were informed the kiddo in front of us was not holding the throttle. Our car was going to catch up to him! Luckily the cars are linked and know when one’s getting close to the other. So it made an emergency stop. We hopped back on the ride but this time in the first car. We made it around both times with no issues, full throttle and boost mode the entire time! 10/10 recommend experiencing the roller coaster at sea to take in the adrenaline and beautiful view of the ocean. It’s a lot faster than it looks.

With our ride complete, it was time to take in the sun for a little while longer. We didn’t last too long this time and it was time for some air conditioning (and maybe a nap)! I headed to the room to read some more and just have some alone time while Cory headed to the casino. I try to give him alone time each cruise to head to the casino- typically he goes when I go to bed but the Celebration does not have a poker table so he had to settle on some mid day gambling.

After a few hours of our own time, Cory woke me up to celebrate his winnings at the casino and he was ready for our dinner reservation at Teppanyaki! Teppanyaki is our favorite dinner activity on board these ships. Hibachi filet mignon is my favorite meal! The entertainment with dinner is always great. If you are craving hibachi now, email us! We can get you on a cruise to fulfill your cravings.

After a very delicious and filling dinner, we went to Color My World. A musical performance where the cast paints a picture in real time through dance and telling a story. The performers on Celebration are very talented and keep up with multiple performances each week. We were very impressed with the show and the digital components of it but we did agree that this show was a little long for us to sit through with the story line.

After the show we wandered to the Lido deck. At night the lido deck is so calm, empty and the view of the sea is unlike any other. We love to wander around and try to find other boats in the distance. We were able to find a ship quite close to us and able to take some very blurry pictures but we were able to speculate it was a Royal Caribbean ship heading to the Bahamas! The clear sky full of stars adds to the amazing views.

After wandering the Lido deck we decided to visit our favorite evening entertainment, the piano bar! I’ve said it before but the people watching here is my absolute favorite. Once we found seats I decided to order a new cocktail- a fancy martini! First off, I ordered it because it looked beautiful. I’ve never been one to mix different alcohol in drinks so Cory was surprised when I ordered the martini that had both champagne and vodka in it. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the taste! The drink was too strong for me and I ended up calling it a night before I could finish my drink

Once I went to bed, Cory continued to sing along in the piano bar. His goal on this trip was to hit the 15 drink maximum, this was something neither of us have ever done. He has gotten to 14 before but always went to bed early with me before he could meet the maximum. When he finally got to 15, he let the bartender Sasha pick his last drink of the night! Sasha picked a Long Island Iced Tea (I threw up a little bit when I found out he drank this). After Cory ordered this drink, he did ask about when the drink package reset since it was after midnight, he learned that it does not reset at midnight but the following morning when the bars open.

It is hard to believe our cruise is almost over and we only have one sea day left! Check out our next blog post about how hungover Cory was and what we do to prepare for disembarkation!
